Is there anyone on earth cooler than MIA? David Bowie is pretty cool. So is Sully and that old dog that won everything at the Westminster dog show. But those people/creatures are merely as cool, certainly not cooler than Maya Arulpragasam. This woman is intense. Watching her perform on her due date at the Grammys was a combination of awe-inspiring and maternal-instinct-triggering. It seemed certain that all those rad moves she was displaying would, like, jostle the baby loose. Guess what? It did.
Writing on her MySpace page over the weekend MIA had this to say about the February 11th birth of her son:
“SUNDAY NITE I CA M E HOME FROM THE GRAMMY'S STILL IN THE MOOD TO PARTY , I COUDA EASILY GONE OUT BUT I WENT HOME INSEAD , LUCKY I DID!! COZ MY EARLY STAGE LABOUR KICKED IN AROUND 2 AM.”
So what is M.I.A. up to now that she’s, you know, delivered a child, performed on the Grammys and been nominated for an Oscar, all in the last few months? Well, she’s amusing herself with weird 80s pregnancy themed workout raps like this one, and planning a tour, of course. “ME AND BABY ARE PUTTING OUR TOUR DATES FOR 2010 TOGETHER,” she wrote. “MAKING MIX TAPES AND FIGURING OUT A WAY TO BREAK OUT OF THE HOSPITAL !”
